PORTFOLIO

Welcome to my Graphic Design Portfolio!
I have been totally immersed in a full time college program for 1.5 years. I was fully committed to learning new computer technology skills that would fit perfectly with my illustrative skills & my fine art background.
It was very challenging work and most rewarding. November 22, 2019 was an exciting day for me, one of life's BIG milestones! I successfully completed my program, graduating with honors. The spreads below represent how graphic design, illustration and fine art have come together for me, taking my creativity to a whole new level.

I would love to work with you to bring your vision to reality!

My Front Cover Design. WHY... Feathers- I am a feather collector, there is not a feather I see that I can't resist adding to my feather bouquets. Diamond- I am a collector of diamond shaped things in jewelry & home decor. Purple & silver pearl - Well my hair is silver with purple streaks SO...

I LOVE my contents page! Dynamic snippets of color & pizzazz to draw the viewer in!

I played around with assorted ideas for thumbnails & decided on emphasizing the thick stroke on the A of my J.A.

Why are feathers the basis to my brand?
Feathers signify the spiritual connection to divinity. Feathers are known as symbols of trust, strength, wisdom & power protection. A symbol of flight & freedom in a physical, mental, emotional & spiritual sense. Feathers are graceful & beautiful, with their gentle curve, interesting shapes & unique patterns, all making them a suitable design element.

In history, quills have been a symbol of communication as they were the most sophisticated writing & drawing instruments prior to the invention of the dip pen. I have 2 feathers, each representing the most important creative parts of me, fine art & now graphic design. The connecting (diamond) of these 2 creative parts gives birth to a new exciting level of creativity for me.

The diamond motif is the foundation, the geometric symbol of creation. This symbol is indicative of the trans-formative journey our souls make while we are achieving higher understanding. The 4 sided shape plays a major role in alchemy. Alchemy is defined as any seemingly magical process of transforming or combining elements into something new.

The Project - Jill Alexander Art Studio Calendar. I took my artwork into Photoshop, then made magic in Illustrator then brought it into InDesign for the layout.
Picture
Calendar continued - My original Zinnia painting is smaller than I usually work but BIG with attitude. In Photoshop I isolated flowers to work with them individually to create a whole new digital artwork.
Picture
The Project - Create a magazine cover with on the topic of BLUE, whatever that meant to me. On Pixabay I collected blue images that excited me, then in Photoshop I took the parts I wanted to use, took it into Illustrator, completing the layout in InDesign.
Picture
The Project - Create a DVD cover for a fictional movie. Using Pixabay, I collected images that appealed to me, then looked at each to decide what my movie was about. Photoshop, Illustrator & InDesign.
Picture
The Project - Create a magazine cover, content spread & interior spread. Naturally my magazine would be all about MOI & work with my photos! Photoshop, Illustrator & InDesign.
Picture
The Project - Make a movie poster, I convinced my instructor that instead of the topics to choose from, I would make a poster on my fave topic, grand-daughter Artist Livi & our love of "Flingos". ***Now I have another fave topic grandson Brayden!*** Photoshop/Illustrator.
Picture
The Project - Create a greeting card. I loved the photo of Livi in her black/white dress with the fluffy teal purple hair pom pom. On Pixabay I found teal purple smoke that I removed from it's background, then with Photoshop/Illustrator magic, poof a greeting card!
Picture
The Project - Using Illustrator create an illustration of a building, I chose my castle in Castleford. For a surprise, my instructor first saw the upper left image with all the windows lit up. Then I had her click in the layers panel & VOILA, there I am painting in my studio!
Picture
The Project - Create a coffee table book. With a list of required details to be included this is my result book consisting of many pages. Illustrator with layout in InDesign.
Picture
The Project - Create an 8 page promotional booklet. Perfect time to do a 16 page booklet on Jill Alexander Studio. Why do 8 when I can do 16! Photoshop/Illustrator.
Picture
J.A. Studio booklet continued. A spread on the right shows my book in a mock up. On the left are animals included in my book that I now isolated in Photoshop to use as individual elements in my portfolio.
Picture
The Project - Tri-fold Brochure created for son and daughter-in-law side passion of Little Pig Town BBQ. Photoshop, Illustrator, then InDesign for layout.
Picture
My Own Project - using a photo of me painting, I colorized it adding "attitude". then I removed the background. I took many of my floral paintings & using only bits & pieces of each painting to come up with this Floral Fantasy #1, then put the composite image into the mock-up on the right.
Picture
My Own Project - Same process as Floral Fantasy #1, this is #2.
